HISTORY.
In 1993, historic flooding ravaged Missouri. Because of that catastrophic event, Dave Graham, our founder, volunteered his time with other organizations to help those victims of the devastating floods. That was the event that birthed within him the desire to help others when communities are disrupted.
Since that time, he has served whenever tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, mass shootings, civil unrest, riots, terrorist attacks, etc. affected people in our country. (click on the WHAT WE DO tab to see all events) The focus was to provide supplies, food, water, personal hygiene items, diapers, chainsaws, generators, and physical labor to help those in need.
In 2021, after the tornadoes devastated Western Kentucky, it became clear to “Cowboy Dave” that times and society had changed. The greatest need no longer was generators or water but creating a safe place to talk while a caring heart listened. American’s who were anxious needed to share their experiences, fears, and their inability to have Hope regarding the future. Less supplies are given out
and more hearts are listened to.
When a tragedy occurs, Cowboy Dave sets up “camp” on a visible corner as close to the event as possible. The community will see a pop-up canopy tent, hear music, and see a fire burning. Cowboy is present with a smile and an inviting tip of the hat. He shouts encouragement such as “You can do this!”, “America loves you!” or “You are not alone!” and hope is restored.
As people become more comfortable with this outreach, they begin to engage in conversation and even request and receive prayer. Lifelong friendships have come out of the ashes where “Hurting Hearts do not need to hurt forever”.
Many needs do not appear for weeks or even months. Expenses are kept at a minimum as Cowboy Dave sleeps in his truck giving him the ability to always be available on site for the hurting souls. Hearts Hurt became a 501c3 in October of 2022. It is totally dependent upon tax deductible donations from caring people like you. We are happy to say that not one cent of a donation dollar has ever gone to administrative, computer or website expenses. These expenses were donated by supporters and volunteers for Hearts Hurt. Additionally, no compensation has ever been given to anyone. Not one person.
